Genetics toolbox

By means of so-called genetics toolboxes, which have been developed as part of a Master’s thesis, the Microbiology working group of the Department of Mathematics/Natural Sciences at the University of Koblenz wants to give pupils the opportunity to gain their first experience with laboratory equipment and familiarise themselves with various working methods used in a molecular biology laboratory while they are still at school.

The toolbox is a handy aluminium case which contains a selection of suitable laboratory equipment as well as analogue and digital teaching materials.

In small groups, pupils in years 12 and 13 can use the toolbox to practise pipetting very small quantities of liquid or spading out bacteria on a culture medium, for example. Within the context of the pupils’ internships, the use of the toolbox will be didactically accompanied and evaluated.

Our donation will be used to purchase a total of eight of these toolboxes.
