Zschimmer & Schwarz provides meals for children in need

Donation to the charitable organization Love the Hungry, Inc. in Kentucky, USA

Love the Hungry, Inc. is dedicated to providing nutritious meals to children suffering from hunger around the world. The goal is to prevent or alleviate malnutrition and its effects. Special Nutri-Plenty Meals™, which contain an optimal combination of vitamins and minerals, ensure an adequate supply of nutrients. They are scientifically proven to alleviate malnutrition in children and have a long shelf life. Since the founding in 2012, over 10 million meals have been distributed – the majority of them in developing countries. Ten percent of the meals go to families in need in Louisville, Kentucky, US, where the organization is headquartered. At the initiative of Tony Turoso, employee of the American subsidiary Zschimmer & Schwarz Interpolymer Inc., which is also based in Louisville, Love the Hungry, Inc. received a donation of 10,000 US dollars from Zschimmer & Schwarz. This sum provided meals for 235 children for four months.

“At so-called packaging events, volunteers help pack the meals. Several employees of Zschimmer & Schwarz Interpolymer Inc. participated in one of these events themselves,” said Tony Turoso, who submitted the project. “Everyone had a lot of fun, and it was an experience that also brought us closer together. It feels good to pitch in and know that you can directly help children in need this way.”

The donation campaign of Zschimmer & Schwarz was initiated by the shareholder families and is now an integral part of the company's social commitment. Every two years, employees have the opportunity to suggest local initiatives to be supported by the company with a donation.

Love the Hungry, Inc. is one of 39 projects across Europe, North and South America as well as Asia supported by Zschimmer & Schwarz as part of the donation campaign with a total sum of around 350,000 euros. “For more than 130 years, our family company Zschimmer & Schwarz has consistently laid the focus of our activities on our fellow human beings. With this philosophy, we aim to give something valuable back to society,” explains Dr. Monika Börner, family shareholder of the Zschimmer & Schwarz Group. “We are happy to support initiatives of our employees and to involve ourselves in projects that deliver direct and sustainable effects at our business locations,” adds Thomas Schwarz, also family shareholder of Zschimmer & Schwarz.
