Food as glue for sociability

The old people's and nursing home in Livorno Ferraris in the Italian province of Vercelli, Piedmont region, is supposed to get its own kitchen with an adjoining dining room.

Currently, the meals for the residents are still prepared in another nearby facility and delivered.

With an in-house kitchen, it will not only be possible to consider the special dietary needs and wishes of the senior citizens, but the residents would also be able to play an active role in designing the menu, and regional foods and specialities could be included. The dining room adjoining the kitchen is to become a sociable place where the elderly can experience pleasant moments together as well as with their relatives, which unfortunately has hardly been possible recently, especially due to the Corona pandemic.
