The internationally active chemical company supports an old people’s and nursing home in the Piedmont region

Shared meals bring people together: as part of its donation campaign, Zschimmer & Schwarz has helped the old people’s and nursing home in Livorno Ferraris in the Italian province of Vercelli, Piedmont region, to purchase its own kitchen. On the initiative of Erica Roveglia, employee of Zschimmer & Schwarz Italiana based in Tricerro, Italy, the facility received 10,000 euros for this purpose.

In the past, the meals for the 60 residents and 20 people in the day care centre of the old people’s and nursing home were prepared at another facility nearby and delivered. Thanks to the donation from Zschimmer & Schwarz, a new kitchen unit has been purchased, along with three serving trolleys with a keep-warm function to transport the meals to the dining room. "Eating is not only a physical need, but also has the ability to connect people with each other," Erica Roveglia explains the idea behind the donation project. "Not only do the residents now have the opportunity to eat together here, but their families can also join them. Thus, the children and grandchildren also bring more life back into the retirement home."

On the occasion of the company’s 125-year anniversary in 2019, the shareholders of the Zschimmer & Schwarz Group started a special charitable programme: all employees around the world were asked to present local initiatives that the company could support with a donation. This donation campaign went into the next roundin 2022 and will be repeated every two years in the future.

The old people’s and nursing home in Livorno Ferraris is one of more than 20 facilities and projects across Europe supported by Zschimmer & Schwarz as part of the donation campaign with a total sum of around 250,000 euros. “Social responsibility and sustainable action have been part of the DNA of our family business Zschimmer & Schwarz ever since it was founded”, explains Gisela Rochow, shareholder of the Zschimmer & Schwarz Group. “We are happy that our donations have a direct impact in the locations where our companies are based and that we can thus give something valuable back to society”, adds Thomas Schwarz, also shareholder of Zschimmer & Schwarz.
