Zschimmer & Schwarz assumes social responsibility and donates to good causes

Zschimmer & Schwarz donates to good causes

For people, for solidarity, for education, social affairs, culture and  health – the chemical company is committed to society

The shareholder families of the Zschimmer & Schwarz Group, internationally acting supplier of chemical auxiliaries and specialities with headquarters in Lahnstein, Germany, show social commitment: almost 50,000 euros were donated to support important projects that have a lasting impact.

"These donations demonstrate the deep-rooted conviction in our company that we can, want to and will also make a positive difference in the community by achieving our primary corporate goals," says Dr Christoph Riemer, CEO of the Zschimmer & Schwarz Group. "We take responsibility towards society and are proud to make our contribution to strengthening the community. For us, this also includes enabling participation and integration, for example, by increasing educational opportunities and promoting the next generation in the field of science and technology. As a traditional family business and important employer, it is also very important to us to support social and cultural activities in the region.

Support for education, research, culture

The donations benefit a wide variety of projects with diverse objectives. 20,000 euros went to MakerSpace Mayen-Koblenz gGmbH, a non-profit initiative that aims to provide young people with space, resources and tools for independent work in a state-of-the-art environment. A place for extracurricular learning is being created here to bundle STEM activities under one roof. 10,000 euros each went to two programmes of the German university foundation Deutsche Universitätsstiftung: “Tandem”, which supports young people without an academic background throughout their degree programme, and “Welcome”, a scholarship programme which supports refugee students who take up studies in Germany. In addition, the Förderverein Jugend- und Kulturzentrum Lahnstein received a donation of 4,000 euros to support the continued existence of the youth and culture centre Lahnstein – an important social institution – at its current location. The shareholder families also support the local cultural scene: Freilichtspiele Mittelrhein, an open-air theatre project in Lahnstein, received 4,000 euros. As the largest charity team at this year's “B2Run” company run in Koblenz, Zschimmer & Schwarz also actively supported the DKMS in their important fight against blood cancer.

Responsibility by tradition

With this initiative, the company once again underlines its social commitment. It complements the Zschimmer & Schwarz donation campaign, which was launched in 2019 on the occasion of the 125th anniversary at the suggestion of the shareholders: over 1,500 employees at all national and international locations are regularly called upon to present social causes from their immediate environment that could be financially supported by the company.

Dr Monika Bömer, shareholder of the Zschimmer & Schwarz Group, is happy about what has been achieved so far and looking forward to the upcoming proposals: “To date, we have supported more than 20 projects and institutions in Europe in the fields of education, youth work, assistance for senior citizens, environment, sports and integration with a total of about 250,000 euros. Due to the great response, the donation campaign is now a fixed institution and will be held every two years – the next one will thus be in 2024, just in time for our 130th company anniversary. We are already looking forward to the exciting suggestions from our employees worldwide.”

Values that last

For Thomas Schwarz, shareholder of the Zschimmer & Schwarz Group, social commitment is a matter of course: “In our almost 130-year company history, our focus has always been on people. We are a family business to the core and consider our employees, their families as well as our neighbourhood at our international locations to be part of this family. The values of the company's founders Otto Zschimmer and Max Schwarz are still alive in the company today, and we will continue to put them into practice in the future.”
