Fire at Milledgeville chemical plant

Quickly brought under control—no personal injuries or danger to the public

Milledgeville, Georgia, 22 October 2019 – Yesterday at 6:30 p.m. (local time), a fire broke out at the chemical plant of Zschimmer & Schwarz, Inc. in Milledgeville, Georgia. Thanks to existing safety precautions as well the quick and efficient action of the local fire department, the situation could rapidly be brought under control. All measures necessary to get rid of any potential damage were immediately set in motion. Damage to plants and buildings as well as potential contamination due to leakage of extinguishing water or product are currently being examined. A hazmat team that has been called to the scene supports decontamination measures and the cleaning of the laboratories. As of yet, the cause of the fire is still unclear and currently being investigated by Zschimmer & Schwarz in cooperation with the authorities.
