New ropeway for children's summer camp thanks to donation from Zschimmer & Schwarz

Donation campaign on occasion of the 125th company anniversary supports holiday camp in Lahnstein

Summertime is holiday time, and for many children that means: off to summer camp! For more than 60 years, the Lahnstein Workers' Welfare Association (AWO Lahnstein) has offered a holiday camp for children from the surrounding area at the Aspich ground during the summer holidays. As part of the donation campaign on occasion of the 125th anniversary of Zschimmer & Schwarz, the AWO Lahnstein received a donation of 5,000 euros, which was used to purchase a new ropeway. The project was proposed by Yvonne Akkermans, employee at Zschimmer & Schwarz in Lahnstein, Germany.

After the construction of the ropeway was delayed due to the corona pandemic, it was ceremoniously inaugurated this summer on the first day of the holiday camp. "Our previous ropeway had to be retired due to age and damage. That's why we were very pleased that Zschimmer & Schwarz decided to support us with a donation," says Dirk von Graevenitz from AWO-Ferienlager Aspich e. V. "Since our holiday camp was cancelled due to the pandemic in the last two years or could only take place on a somewhat smaller scale, it’s even nicer that we can offer the children a great new piece of play equipment this summer with the new ropeway, which allows them to romp around."

On the occasion of the company’s 125-year anniversary in 2019, the shareholders of the Zschimmer & Schwarz Group started a special charitable programme: all employees around the world were asked to present local initiatives that the company could support with a donation. This donation campaign went into the next round in 2022 and will be repeated every two years in the future.

AWO Aspich is one of 14 institutions and charitable projects across Europe supported by Zschimmer & Schwarz as part of the donation campaign 2019 with a total sum of around 200,000 euros. “For more than 125 years, our company has represented a philosophy that always puts people first”, explains Monika Börner, shareholder of the Zschimmer & Schwarz Group. “Therefore, we try to give something valuable back to society and involve ourselves in projects that deliver direct and sustainable effects at our business locations.”
