Where we come from

  • In 1894 Otto Zschimmer and Max Schwarz founded a wholesale business for chemicals, dyestuffs and pharmaceuticals in Chemnitz. The enterprise was successful and prospered.
  • Manufacture of chemical products was added to the business in 1909. The firm operated three plants located at Greiz-Dölau and Heinrichshall (Thuringia), and Grünberg (Bohemia).
  • In 1939, a plant for the production of chemical and tanning agents was acquired at Lahnstein on the Rhine, which after World War II, provided the nucleus and the site for the headquarters of today's company group.
  • In 1960, Zschimmer & Schwarz founded its first subsidiary, which was in France with commercial office in Paris. During the following years, foundations abroad or takeovers of existing companies followed, so that today ZSCHIMMER & SCHWARZ Holding GmbH & Co KG has 17 partnership firms in different parts of the world.

Where we are today

  • The parent company in Lahnstein employs a staff of approx. 500 people who are responsible for the development, research, production and sale of special chemical auxiliaries.
  • More than half of the company's turnover is achieved abroad. ZSCHIMMER & SCHWARZ is present wherever man-made fibres, leather, fur, surfactants, ceramic and textile industries are located around the world.
  • In the summer of 1993 ZSCHIMMER & SCHWARZ MOHSDORF GmbH & CoKG was established and employs today some 110 personnel. The relocation of the Textile Auxiliaries Department from Lahnstein to Mohsdorf near Chemnitz was completed at the end of 1995.
  • ZSCHIMMER & SCHWARZ has modern production plants for the manufacture of different chemical products produced by discontinuous and continuous methods.
    The most important chemical transformations are sulphonation, sulphation, ethoxylation, propoxylation, polymerisation, esterifying, and condensation reactions, and various operations for the manufacture of solid and liquid formulations.
    Extensively equipped modern laboratories provide facilities for wet-chemical and instrumental analysis, offering a process support service, as well as product development and application functions.
  • Environment-friendly control of production plays an important role in the company's activities. Different facilities reduce emissions, the company's own purification plant guarantees the cleaning of all effluents which the company produces.
  • The Head Office in Lahnstein, our subsidiaries and a worldwide representatives network ensure an constant customer and application oriented service, and assistance wherever and whenever required.
  • Ready availability of our products is a further step towards success. For this reason, strategic product stocks are constantly maintained across the world.
  • The excellent location of Lahnstein allows transportation by road, rail and ship, and to major international airports at Frankfurt, Cologne / Bonn and Frankfurt / Hahn.
  • In 1993, ZSCHIMMER & SCHWARZ was awarded full certification in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001 : 2000
